Jaliwanwallabag and...

Jaliwanwallabag and...

I feel really sad to see that there is not a single politician who is eager to solve the present problem in Singur, Baruipur or Nandigram. We are losing lives and people are talking about land?
Lord Buddha is adamant to the core, Airborne protective, Priyo ignorant, Patriarch repentant, Goodbrata lathi weilding, Italy anxious, Hindus pretensious, So men unseen & unheard, Bloc(k) calls this as unfortunate...and didi is on oxygen. The Guv is unhappy. The 'buddhi jibi's are ashamed, angry. Everyone has a point to prove. Everyone has a viewpoint. Everybody says they are with the people. We are being presented with a bright future by all and sundry - we are being shown the dream of either a green revolution or an industrial revolution. That, when people are losing their near ones as in an epidemic. We are doing it all at the expense of lives.

Nobody thinks about what we, the common masses, feel about this. If not allowing the administration to enter into my territory is my birthright, what wrong did those goons do who gunned down Vinod Mehta, the SP? If police killing people just because they wanted to save their lives is good enough an excuse, why do we regret Tienanmen? Who is at fault? Or, is it the right time to do fault finding? Haven't we lost enough already? And then, we continue these protests. If nothing, then a Bandh call.

I remember a story I heard about a person who went mad. His only madness was to break window glasses. He was treated at a sanitorium for a certain period of time and the doctors were sure he has recovered fully. When he was asked what he would do on his return, he said he would first look for a beautiful wife, take her on a honemoon trip, have a romantic evening sipping coffee together, have a nice dinner, go to bed, undress himself, undress his wife and...
.
use the elastic of the bra straps to create a nice stone thrower (a 'gulti' in Bangla) so that he can more easily and accurately shatter the glasses of the neighbouring buildings' windows.

A Bandh call is like that glass breaking passion of the mad man. Anything and everything that comes our way, the top priority will be to call a bandh.

If staying at home and enjoying a nice time with the family is what we call as protest, give me a chance and I know there are so many things in this world to protest about. I burn a few buses, and tomorrow my nephew gets into a more crowded bus to college. I stop people from going anywhere. I ensure patients die in ambulances, I ensure bereaved family members do not get a chance to even have a last view of the dead. I do it because I want to protest. At the end of it, I am so happy because I think I have been able to provide enough solace to the family members of the dead, who will vote for me to bring me to power in the next elections.

When the police force their way into the Golden Temple or a Masjid in Kashmir, we call it the win of the good forces in their fight against terrorism. How would one justify that a large area was not allowing police forces to come in? Do you think it is mass movement? It is not. It is at the instigation of certain power hungry politicians that 14 innocent lives were lost. To garner support, kids were slapped and brought out of classrooms to join the agitation. Whatever may be the cause, I can and shall never support such act.

Both the parties call this a battle for survival. I do not own a plot in Singur. My cousing owns a shop in downtown Kolkata. If he is faced with the same problem, what would he look forward to? What happens when his 3 children will have their own families? Will they be able to earn their livelihood from the same shop? What would be his best solution? Isn't it that he should ensure that he gets the maximum benefit out of this change of hands, if someone is trying to take over his shop? Earning compensation to the n? How can he get that? If he throws stones at the grabber, is there a guarantee the person on the other side is not going to retaliate?

No major problem in this world have been solved by power. Any good solution one can think about any problem has been arrived through negotiations. Tell me of a problem solved through force - I am sure you can't name any. If that was the case, the British would have been ruling India even now.

The only way to a solution, even in these cases, is to negotiate a deal where nobody is left aside - ensure that everyone is getting enough compensation and that compensation can be used in the long term to provide excellent support to the people who are losing their properties. This can be achieved only through negotiation and yes, through real politics. Our leaders will need to become real politicians now. If you have the will to support people, people's support will come to you automatically.

The biggest shame is, in this state which prides itself with being the motherland of so many eminent people, today I cannot see a single person who has the will.
